This Privacy Policy explains how SockTrip (“we”, “us”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use socktrip and related services (the “Service”).
Who we are
SockTrip is a community platform for city-by-city travel tips. You can browse tips, create an account, share tips, comment, bookmark content, and send feedback.
Information we collect
Account data: email address, password (stored by our auth provider), and nickname. Profile and activity: tips you submit (title, body, city/place, tags, optional map location, anonymity preference), comments, votes, bookmarks, reports, notifications, and feedback. Technical data: IP address, device/browser type, and basic usage logs needed to run and secure the Service. Local device data: session tokens and small preferences (for example draft tips or rate-limit helpers) stored in your browser.
How we use information
We use your information to provide and improve the Service, authenticate you, moderate content, grant the tip-access window after contributions, send in-app notifications, prevent abuse (including captchas), and respond to feedback or reports. We may use aggregated or anonymized statistics to understand how the Service is used.
Public content
Tips you publish (and related public profile details such as nickname, when shown) are visible to other users according to moderation status. If you post anonymously, we still keep your authorship privately for account, access, and moderation purposes.
Sharing and processors
We use trusted infrastructure providers (for example hosting, database, and authentication) to operate SockTrip. They process data only to provide those services. If analytics or advertising scripts are enabled in site settings, those third parties may receive usage data according to their own policies. We do not sell your personal information.
Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies and local storage for sign-in sessions, security (such as captcha and abuse prevention), and basic preferences. Essential storage is required for the Service to work. Optional third-party scripts, if enabled, may set their own cookies.
Retention
We keep account and content data while your account is active and as needed for moderation, security, and legal obligations. You may request deletion of your account; some content you published may remain on the Service without your profile attached, as described in the Terms of Use.
Your choices
You can update nickname and related account settings while signed in, withdraw some reports, clear local drafts, and use the in-app feedback tools. For account deletion or privacy requests, use the feedback feature on the site or contact us through the channels we publish.
Children
SockTrip is not directed at children under 16. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised policy.
